11%

claim denial rate across the healthcare sector

Every uncontested denial is money left on the table. And 65 per cent go uncontested.

The average healthcare claim denial rate reaches 11 per cent and is growing. Forty-six per cent of denials are due to incomplete information or administrative errors that are entirely preventable. Only 35 per cent of denials are appealed, and of those, 50-55 per cent are recovered. The average cost of working a denial is EUR 25-50. With appeal deadlines of 30-60 days, every day of delay puts revenue at risk. Denial management teams operate in permanent reactive mode, prioritising by urgency instead of probability of success.
